When Devon Vargas of the Rosepine Police Department steps into the ring at Battle of the Badges 2025, it won’t be just about throwing punches — it’ll be about proving heart, honoring purpose, and giving back.

Though this is Devon’s first year fighting with BOTB, his passion is anything but new.

“I was going to fight three years ago, but life happened,” Devon said. “Now, I’m finally here, and I plan to do this every year moving forward. This is just the beginning.”

“I’ve seen him — he’s cut. Definitely looks like he has more experience than me, but it’s just one night, one fight. And I’m ready.”

For Joel Faulk, stepping into the ring at BOTB 2025 isn’t just about competition. It’s about conviction, community, and his son.

As a dedicated officer with the Louisiana State Probation Department, Joel’s life has been built on structure, discipline, and protecting others. But nothing prepared him for the moment his young son was diagnosed with autism. Watching his child struggle — especially with bullying at school — tore at him more than any opponent ever could.

That pain eventually turned to purpose.

Joel found strength and hope through MedCamps of Louisiana, a nonprofit camp that provides unforgettable, safe experiences for children with special needs. His son came back from camp smiling, standing taller, and finally feeling seen — and that changed everything for Joel.

So when the opportunity came to fight at Battle of the Best 2025, Joel didn’t hesitate.
“Three minutes in the ring to support MedCamps? That’s nothing compared to what these kids go through every day,” Joel said.

Every summer, they host a series of one-week camps absolutely free of charge for over 5,500 children facing the challenges of physical and mental disabilities. The policemen and the firemen will fight for Med Camps of Louisiana, Inc. Med Camps of Louisiana holds a series of one-week, fun-filled camps each summer free of charge for over 5,500 children in Louisiana facing the challenges of a variety of physical and mental disabilities.
