Fighter Story: Joel Faulk – Fighting for More Than a Win

For Joel Faulk, stepping into the ring at BOTB 2025 isn’t just about competition. It’s about conviction, community, and his son.

As a dedicated officer with the Louisiana State Probation Department, Joel’s life has been built on structure, discipline, and protecting others. But nothing prepared him for the moment his young son was diagnosed with autism. Watching his child struggle — especially with bullying at school — tore at him more than any opponent ever could.

That pain eventually turned to purpose.

Joel found strength and hope through MedCamps of Louisiana, a nonprofit camp that provides unforgettable, safe experiences for children with special needs. His son came back from camp smiling, standing taller, and finally feeling seen — and that changed everything for Joel.

So when the opportunity came to fight at Battle of the Best 2025, Joel didn’t hesitate.
Three minutes in the ring to support MedCamps? That’s nothing compared to what these kids go through every day,” Joel said.

This fight is more than sport. It’s a stand.
A stand for children like his son. A stand for inclusion.
And a stand for community.

💥 BOTB 2025 Fighter Summary: Joel Faulk

  • Name: Joel Faulk

  • Profession: Officer – LA State Probation Department

  • Hometown: Benton, Louisiana

  • Fighting Style: Grit and grind – built on heart, not just hands

  • Why He’s Fighting: To raise awareness and support for MedCamps of Louisiana and children with autism

  • Personal Mission: Show that real fighters protect, provide, and persevere

🎤 5-Question Interview with Joel Faulk

1. What drives you to step into the ring — fear or fire?

“It’s fire. The kind that comes from watching your child hurt and knowing you’d do anything to protect him. I fight because I have to — not for me, but for him.”

2. What makes your opponent dangerous — and beatable?

“He’s strong, no doubt. But he’s not fighting for what I’m fighting for. When your ‘why’ is bigger than you, no one can match your heart.”

3. What’s one thing fans don’t know about you… yet?

“I’m not just a fighter or a lawman. I’m a father to a beautiful boy with autism. And every punch I throw is for him.”

4. How do you train for war when the world’s watching?

“You train with focus and faith. I carry the weight of my son’s smile into every rep, every round. That’s my fuel.”

5. What’s your bold prediction for fight night?

“I’ll leave it all in the ring. Win or lose, MedCamps wins. And if I can raise awareness for just one more kid — I already won.”

A Farewell to a Fan Favorite — Celebrating Selena’s 14-Year Legacy as a BOTB Ring Girl

For more than a decade, one name has become synonymous with Battle of the Badges: Selena.

A fiery redhead with a heart of gold, Selena has been a pillar of the BOTB family — serving not only as a Ring Girl but as a proud supporter of the Fight for the Kids mission. As we head into BOTB 2025, Selena has shared that this may be her final year holding the round card. So, we sat down with her to reflect on her unforgettable 14-year journey, the community she’s helped shape, and the legacy she leaves behind.

Beyond the Ring: Who Is Selena?

Selena isn’t just a familiar face in the ring — she’s a full-time mom, devoted animal lover, talented cosmetologist, and a self-proclaimed seafood addict with a serious hot sauce obsession. Her zest for life is evident in everything she does, and it’s that same energy she brought to every BOTB event.

“I was already in the modeling industry, so being a Ring Girl was right up my alley,” she shares. “A friend invited me to join her one year — and after that, I was hooked.”

The First Night That Started It All

Her very first BOTB event remains etched in her memory. “The smiles on the kids’ faces, the energy from the crowd, the walkout songs, the dancing, the sportsmanship — it was incredible. What stood out the most was how much the community showed up to support.”

It’s moments like these that inspired Selena to come back, year after year.

14 Years Later — A Legacy of Dedication

When asked how it feels to have served as a BOTB Ring Girl for over 14 years, Selena jokingly replied, “OLD!” But behind the laughter is a deep sense of pride.

“Every year I kept saying it was going to be my last, but Dennis knows — I’m only one call away.”

So what kept her coming back?

“The friendships I’ve made — with fighters, coaches, ring girls, promoters, and our amazing photographer. It always feels like a family reunion.”

While the event has evolved, one thing hasn’t changed: Selena’s commitment. “The girls are getting younger, and I’m getting older,” she laughs. “But I’ve always loved bringing energy and joy to that ring.”

Moments That Mattered Most

Of all the memories, it’s not the bright lights or the roaring crowd that stick with her most — it’s the kids.

“Going to MedCamps, hanging out with the children, and being recognized as someone’s ‘favorite ring girl’ — that’s what stays with you. Knowing you’ve made a difference, even in a small way, is everything.”

The mission behind BOTB — Fighting for the Kids — is one Selena holds close.

“It takes courage to step in that ring and risk injury just to raise money for a child you may never meet. That’s real heart. That’s why I do this.”

Leaving a Mark

When asked how she’d like to be remembered, Selena grins and says, “I was that redhead!” But make no mistake — her legacy is much more than her iconic look.

“I hope people remember that I loved what I did, that I brought joy, and that I was kind. You never know what someone’s going through — sometimes a smile or a kind word can be the highlight of someone’s day.”

To the next generation of Ring Girls, her advice is simple: “Get in there. Have fun. Love everyone.”

Looking Ahead

While 2025 may be her final year as a Ring Girl, Selena isn’t saying goodbye — she’s just shifting gears.

“I’ll always be part of BOTB. I just won’t be holding up a card.”

As for what’s next? Selena plans to enjoy BOTB from the crowd — cheering on the next wave of fighters, ring girls, and community champions, likely with a plate of seafood and a bottle of hot sauce nearby.

To Selena, With Love

Selena, your presence in the ring has been nothing short of iconic. Thank you for your 14 years of commitment, compassion, and charisma. You’ve inspired countless fans and helped build a culture that’s about far more than boxing — it’s about heart, family, and community.

As you step away from the ring and into the next chapter of your life, know this: You’ll always have a home at Battle of the Badges.

From your BOTB family — we love you to the moon and back. ❤️🥊

Dennis Wall: A Man on a Mission with Battle of the Badges 2025 – Operation Honor

For over two decades, one man has stood in the corner for our heroes — not in silence, but with a megaphone, a mission, and a heart full of purpose. That man is Dennis Wall, the founder and promoter of Battle of the Badges, a non-profit amateur boxing show featuring courageous police officers and firefighters from Northeast Louisiana and across the country.

Now in its 21st year, BOTB 2025 returns with a powerful new theme: “Operation Honor” — a heartfelt tribute to our Police, Fire, First Responders, Military Branches, Veterans, and their Families. This theme isn’t just a slogan. For Dennis Wall, it’s personal. It’s a promise. It’s purpose in action.

And it’s never meant more than it does right now.

The Heart Behind the Gloves

Dennis Wall didn’t start Battle of the Badges for fame or fortune. He started it for community. For charity. For children. And for those who wear the badge and serve others, often without thanks or recognition.

“Battle of the Badges is bigger than boxing,” Dennis often says. “It’s about people who put their lives on the line every day getting in the ring — not to fight each other — but to fight for something bigger than themselves.”

That “something” is MedCamps of Louisiana, a life-changing nonprofit that provides free summer camp experiences for over 5,500 children with physical and mental disabilities across Louisiana. The kids they serve face daily challenges many of us could never imagine. But at MedCamps, those challenges fade behind fishing trips, horseback rides, campfire songs, swimming, smiles, and laughter.

And that’s what drives Dennis Wall to keep going — year after year.

What “Operation Honor” Means to Dennis Wall

For Dennis, the 2025 theme “Operation Honor” is a long overdue spotlight on the bravery, sacrifice, and humanity of the men and women who serve in uniform.

“In a time when the world can be divided, and our first responders and veterans sometimes feel unappreciated,” Dennis says, “we wanted BOTB 2025 to say one thing loud and clear: You are seen. You are valued. You are honored.

“Operation Honor” is about recognizing not just those in uniform — but also the families who stand behind them. The spouses who endure long nights. The children who say goodbye too often. The parents who worry every day. For Dennis, this isn’t abstract. It’s close to home.

He’s seen fallen friends, witnessed the toll of PTSD, and held the hands of those who’ve lost brothers in both the field and the ring. “These aren’t just titles,” Dennis says. “They’re people. Real people. With real courage.”

And for one night each year, they become boxers — fighting not just with gloves, but with heart, honor, and purpose.

More Than a Fight Night – A Movement of Impact

Since 2005, Battle of the Badges has done more than entertain. It has raised over $402,000 for its selected charities, while building bridges between law enforcement, firefighters, the military, and the community. The annual event draws over 5,500 people to the Monroe Civic Center, and its impact radiates far beyond the ring.

Every punch thrown represents a child gaining access to a summer of hope.
Every round fought equals new memories for a family touched by disability.
Every ticket sold fuels a cause that changes lives.

Dennis Wall never lets that mission drift from focus. In fact, before every fight, he takes a moment backstage to remind the boxers why they’re there.

“This is for the kids,” he tells them. “This is for the families. This is for the badge you wear and the people you serve.”

A Labor of Love — The Legacy of Dennis Wall

Organizing BOTB each year is no small feat. It requires months of planning, meetings, partnerships, sponsorships, and sleepless nights. But for Dennis, it’s a labor of love. He wears many hats: promoter, fundraiser, ring announcer, and even peacekeeper when tensions flare.

But the hat he wears most proudly? Servant.

His deep respect for law enforcement and firefighters is rooted in personal experience. Over the years, he’s built deep bonds with departments across the region and has welcomed participants from Louisiana, Texas, Mississippi, and beyond. For many, it’s more than just a chance to fight — it’s a chance to heal, to grow, and to give back.

“Some of our boxers come in not just to fight, but to fight through something,” Dennis says. “Grief, trauma, the weight of the job. And they leave with a sense of release and pride.”

That’s the power of BOTB. It’s not about violence — it’s about valor.

What Keeps Him Going – A Heart for Children

One of Dennis’ most emotional memories came after a show several years ago. A young girl, who had attended MedCamps thanks to the funds raised by BOTB, ran up to him after the event and hugged him tightly.

With tears in her eyes, she said, “Thank you for giving me a place where I didn’t feel different.”

That moment fuels Dennis to this day.

“When you realize a night of boxing can turn into a lifetime of memories for a kid who faces so many challenges — how can you ever stop?” he says.

That’s why every year, without fail, Dennis goes back to the gym. Back to the phone calls. Back to the boardrooms. And ultimately, back to the ring.

Honoring a Community — Lifting a Cause

BOTB is more than an event. It’s a platform — one that uplifts, celebrates, and honors. And through “Operation Honor,” Dennis Wall is making sure that everyone who steps into the arena this August feels that deep appreciation.

He honors the fallen. He lifts the weary. He celebrates the unsung heroes.

And perhaps most powerfully — he brings people together.

Whether you’re a police officer, firefighter, veteran, or civilian — whether you buy a ticket or sponsor a fighter — when you show up to BOTB, you become part of a movement that is changing lives one punch at a time.
